Parshas Ki Savo: Rav Gifter - Are You Happy With Your Crop

וְשָׂמַחְתָּ בְכָל-הַטּוֹב, אֲשֶׁר נָתַן-לְךָ יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ--וּלְבֵיתֶךָ "And you shall rejoice in all the good which Hashem your God has given unto you, and unto your house."  The farmer has just finished reaping a bountiful crop, fills a basket with Bikkurim and heads to the Bais HaMikdash. It would seem natural for him to be in good spirits at that time. Why then, asks Rav Gifter, does the Torah have to command the farmer to rejoice when he brings his Bikkuirim?

The painful reality, says Rav Gifter, is that happiness is rarely an outcome of the amount of money or possessions that a person has. There are many very happy poor people and many miserable wealthy people. Happiness is a matter of perspective. Let us take our farmer. Yes, he is on his way to the Bais HaMikdash with a basket overflowing with Bikkurim, but did his crop reach his expectations? And even if he was happy with his crop when he left home, when he reaches the Bais HaMikdash he might encounter others whose crop were much larger than his. Concerning this attitude the Torah commands, "And you shall rejoice in all the good which Hashem your God has given unto you, and unto your house." We have to learn to focus on what we do have and not on what we are missing.

This is the meaning of the pasuk further in the parsha. תַּחַת, אֲשֶׁר לֹא-עָבַדְתָּ אֶת-יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ, בְּשִׂמְחָה, וּבְטוּב לֵבָב--מֵרֹב, כֹּל "Because you did not serve Hashem with happiness when everything was abundant.  What does MeiRov Kol mean?  Earlier, in Parshas VaYishlach, we read that Esav said "Yaish Li Rav" - I have plenty - however this is not enough. Yaakov, however, says "Yaish Li Kol" - I have everything I need. I do not need anymore. The pasuk is saying - don't serve Hashem with the attitude of "Rov" but rather with the attitude of "Kol". We must learn from the commandment by Bikkurim -  וְשָׂמַחְתָּ בְכָל-הַטּוֹב  to always be happy with what we have.

I've heard the concept of Rav and Col many times but still it doesn't make sense to me how they derive that Col is better than Rav. Col is only 50 and Rav is 202. I am wondering if the shape of the letters give us a clue?

Thanks.
