Bais Ovi: Can A Gabbai Call Up His Father By His Name?
If the gabbai is calling up his own father for an Aliya LaTorah may he use his father's name? The Bais Ovi (5:56) brings the Pischei Tshuva who says that if someone asks you who your father is, you may say you are the son of R' So and So.
He quotes the Maharshal who brings proof from the Rosh, who when quoting the Maharam MiRuttenberg, says "my Rebbi the Maharam". The reason the Rosh was able to say that was because the Rosh had many Rebbe'im and by saying Rebbi it would not properly identify the Maharam. Therefore, in our case, if you need to say your father's name to answer the question you may do.
Similarly when calling your father for an Aliya, everyone is called with a title, therefore the Bais Ovi says that it is permissible to say your fathers name with a proper title beforehand. He says that this is the Minhag in Yeshivos when calling up the Rosh Yeshiva and also the Minhag by Chasidim when calling up the Rebbe.
