Rav Shimshon Pincus Sees The Light Of Moshiach

Rav Shimshon Pincus was a young married man trapped in Israel during the six day war, as his plane could not get out on time before the war started.  The fear of total destruction gripped the entire nation.  After the miraculous victory and the transfer of the Kosel HaMa'aravi back to Jewish hands for the first time in 20 years, euphoria erupted and people heralded the victory as the light of Moshiach.

As Rav Pincus retells, a few days after the war he also went to the Kosel hoping to get a glimpse of "the light of Moshiach".  His trip to the Kosel and witnessing the singing and dancing left him unimpressed.  "This is not it" he thought.  A number of years later though, when he saw the early beginnings of the Tshuva movement, he thought tohimself this is it!  The light of Moshiach is starting to shine.

We were slaves in Mitzrayim for many bitter years under Paroh's iron grip.  Even Moshe's warnings and nine Makos did move Paroh to let us out.  Finally in the dark of the night, it was all over with just one sentence uttered from Paroh's lips.  The words that rang in the geula were (Bo 12:31) "Kumu Tzi'u Mitoch Ami... U'Lichu Ivdu Es Hashem Elokeichem", rise up and go out from my nation... go serve your Hashem.

We spent close to two thousand years in a bitter galus where we were locked up and often prevented from serving Hashem.  Over two hundred years ago in America and in many parts of Europe we were freed.  There was "enlightenment" and thus emancipation.  We were given free reign.  We had full rights as human beings for almost the first time in galus on such a wide scale.  We thought they wanted us to be like them but that proved to cause even more antisemitism and even a holocaust.  We misunderstood them.  Make no mistake about it, the western world is standing on their feet and screaming just like Paroh, "Kumu Tzi'u Mitoch Ami... U'Lichu Ivdu Es Hashem Elokeichem".  As Rav Shimshon many times said, today we don't have Nevi'im telling us the Dvar Hashem, our enemies do it instead.  The message told to us by the anti-semitic Nuremberg laws and the words of Yirmiyahu HaNavi were eerily similar, as they echoed the same sentiments.

When Rav Shimshon saw the beginning of mass movement that was stuck amidst non-Jewish culture, successfully extract themselves as they rose up and got out to go serve Hashem, he must have heard the voice of Paroh, the voice of the geula.  To leeve our Mitzrayim we need to leave behind their culture, their values and all their other Chometz, "Ki Lo Chometz Ki Gorshu MiMitzrayim".

The light of Moshiach is here already.  We just need to follow the simple directions to the exit.
