Halacha - Taanis Bechorim
Submitted by Ariel  Answered by Rav Peretz Moncharsh
Question: Why are we so maykil on Taanis Bechorim such that we always make a siyum right after Shacharis? Was there any time in history where we weren't so maykil? If it is a real taanis, why don't we lein the fast day leining at Shacharis?
Answer: It seems from Mishna Berura that in his days people still fasted, because he discusses the halachos of 10 bechorim reading vyechal from a Sefer Torah and saying aneinu in chazoras hashatz. Presumably since it is from the more lenient fast days and comes at a very difficult season, the accepted custom came to rely on a siyum. A similar transformation came over the minhag to fast on a yahrtzeit which later became to make a siyum and l'chaim. Today we are often left only with the l'chaim.
