Halacha - Pilegesh
Submitted by anonymous  Answered by Rav Peretz Moncharsh
Question: A divorced friend of mine is engaging in intimate relations with a man she is not married to. She does not want to marry him, though. (I'm not sure why.) My husband mentioned the concept of 'pilegesh'. Would that be an option for her, so that she would not be doing an aveira? And if yes, how can she go about becoming an pilegesh, and what are the qualifications of becoming one? A quick response would be wonderful. Thank you so much for your time. Gut Yor, Sheva
Answer: A pilegesh is not an option because the majority opinion of the Poskim is that it only applies to a king or to marriage without a kesuba, but not to an extra-marital relationship. While she may consider her "friend" a princely fellow, Halacha certainly does not accord him royal status.
