Halacha - Delaying a Get
Submitted by anonymous  Answered by Rav Peretz Moncharsh
Question: If someone knows that he will in the end have to give a get, is there an issur for delaying, and if there is please also tell me mareh mekoimes. I would really appreciate if you could help me.
Answer:

Every situation has its own details, and you should really ask the Dayanim familiar with your specific case. Generally speaking, since the mizbeach cries over each divorce we delay and try to resolve the issues as long as there is a sliver of a chance of reconciliation. Once the situation is beyond any hope, it is ona'a and lacking in v'ahavta l'rayacha k'mocha to hold someone hostage over financial and custody issues. These mitzvos apply even to ones ex and even if there are legitimate grievances.

Acc. to Rama, there is no longer Mizbeach Morid Demaos today when Get Be'al Korchah is outlawed. (This does not affect the wisdom and correctness of your response and advice.)
