Rav Simcha Bunim of Peshischa - Did Rav Elazar Rokeach's Shofar Blowing Miraculously Calm The Seas?
The Medrash asks, do the nations of the world not know how to blow a Shofar?  The Medrash answers that they don't know how to appease their Creator with the sounds of the Shofar.  How does one appease Hashem with a Shofar?

Rav Elazar Rokeach from Amsterdam was traveling to Eretz Yisroel by boat.  Rosh HaShanah came out while he was still at sea.  That night the sea was raging and threatened to sink the boat that was quickly filling with water.  While everyone spent the night on deck helping to fight the ocean, Rav Elazar was deep in his holy thoughts in his cabin.

When the situation looked hopeless his shamash told him that very soon the boat would capsize.  If so, said Rav Elazar, it is almost day break lets get ready to blow the Shofar.  At the crack of dawn Rav Elazar blew an emotional Shofar on the sinking boat.  As soon as he finished the seas calmed.

Rav Simcha Bunim Of Peshischa commented that Rav Elazar did not hurry to blow to calm the seas, he hurried to blow to be able to do a mitzva of Hashem one more time before his untimely death.  With a Shofar blowing like that we can appease Hashem!  (Yeina Shel Torah)
