Parshas Shoftim: The Chozeh Of Lublin Cannot "Dumb Down" Rav Naftali MiRopshitz
The talmidim of the Chozeh of Lublin were a special group consisting of many great future Rebbes themselves, but Rav Naftali of Ropshitz stood out among the rest as being sharp, wise, intelligent, and quick witted.

One day the Chozeh said to Rav Naftali, where do we find in the torah that a person should be so smart?  On the contrary the torah says in Parshas Shoftim (18:13), "Tamim Tihiyeh Im Hashem Elokecha", you need to be innocent and simple with Hashem putting your intelligence on the back-burner.  Never to be outwitted, Rav Naftali answered, true but to know how to be truly innocent and simple you need to be extremely intelligent!  (Gilyon Peninim)
