Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach: Trapped At The Amud & Not Counting With A Bracha, Is There A Way Out?

If you miss counting Sefira for an entire day, you may not make a bracha anymore since according to some poskim the mitzva is to count forty nine days in their entirety.  Is there any way you can still make a Bracha?  What happens if you are the Chazan and do not want to face embarrassment, is there a way out?

Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach (Halichos Shlomo 11:7) says there is a way you can spare yourself the shame.  If there is a person who is still counting with a bracha who is willing to forego his bracha that night, you can say it and be Motzi him.  Since there is a halacha of Arvus, where each Jew is responsible for the other, you may make the bracha for him.  It is like making Kiddush a second time for someone who hasn't heard.
