Parshas Kedoshim: Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach Gets Sick Over Two Misguided Machmirim (Masmihim)
"Ish Imo V'Aviv Tira'u V'Es Shabsosai Tishmoiru" (Kedoshim 18:3)  Rashi quotes Chazal who says that these two mitzvos are in the same pasuk to teach us that if a parent tells you to be Michalel Shabbos you need not listen.  Do we take this too far?

The Yagdil Torah tells the story that Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach was once walking in the street on Shabbos where there was a Kosher Eiruv.  He saw an older gentleman dragging a bench through the street with his two sons following behind empty handed.  He asked them why they aren't helping their father?  The answered that because of a certain Chumra they are makpid not to carry there.

Rav Mendelson, who told over this story, said that after hearing this Rav Shlomo Zalman became so upset that was not himself for a a considerable amount of time.  He even cancelled his shiur for a day or two, which he was not up to giving, under the circumstances.
