Parshas Behar: Chasam Sofer - No Stone Floors... Except in The Bais HaMikdash - Submitted by an Anonymous Reader
VaYikra (26:1-2) Hashem commands us not to make a stone floor and to keep Shabbos.  The Chasam Sofer asks what is the connection between stone floors and Shabbos? Furhtermore, if Hashem dislikes stone floors why did he command that the Bais Hamikdash be made with one.  He answers that stone floors are needed in the Bais Hamikdash because of the blood of the Korbanos would muddy a sand floor. This explains the connection to Shabbos. On Shabbos you would need to clean it up and that would mean you would be Desecrating Shabbos. Therefore the pasuk tells us do not make stone floors.  What about the Bais HaMikdash?  There it is needed in order to keep Shabbos.
