Havdala Motza'ei Shabbos Yom Kippur: Besamim Or Not?

For Havdala on Motza'ei Yom Kippur we do not use Besamim. What about this year that it falls on Motz'ei Shabbos, do make a bracha on the Besamim? The Shulchan Aruch paskens that we don't but many rishonim and most acharonim argue with him. L'Halacha the Mishna Berura relies on those who say you do use besamim since even if you do not need besamim it is not a bracha l'vatala because you are required to make a bracha whenever you smell besamim. Making the extra bracha is not considered a hefsek in middle of havdala.

The reasoning behind the varying opinions says the Machatzis HaShekel, hinges on the two reasons why we smell besamim motza'ei shabbos. According to the reason that it is because Gehinom which stopped on shabbos starts again and generates an awful smell which we do say on Motza'ei Yom Kippur that falls out on Motza'ei Shabbos. But according to the reasoning that we need a good smell to compensate for the loss of our Neshama Yeseira, since we fasted all day, the Neshama Yeseira had no impact so we don't need the besamim. The Shaarei Teshuva brings an opinion that on Yom Kippur Shabbos we certainly have a neshama Yeseira and besamim is necessary.
