|Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach: Don't Rush To Dip Your Apple In The Honey|
Since the fruit we eat for simanim on Rosh HaShana night needs a separate Bracha, Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach reminds us that we should make a Borei Pri HaEtz on the Date first since it is from the Sheva Minim and has priority over the apple and even the pomegranate according to the proper order of Brachos. If you feel the you need to dip the apple in the honey right away, then you should leave the date and pomegranate off the table until after you have made the bracha.
On the simanim that need a Bracha of Borei Pri Ha'Adama, Rav Shlomo Zalman says you should make the bracha on the Gourd because it is not clear if black eyed peas or leek require making a bracha during a meal or if they are exempt with the bracha of HaMotzi. Rav Moshe Shternbuch argues and says that even gourd may not need a separate bracha. The Dinei HaMoadim advises to eat a banana, strawberry, or watermelon which certainly requires a separate bracha and avoiding any problems.
Important Note: We try to convey the Tshuva to the best of our ability. We admit that our understanding may not be accurate. Please also understand that this Tshuva may not be the final word on this topic. One should consult a Rav before drawing any conclusions.

According to a Sefardi website, if you first make a bracha of Haetz and you want to eat a banana next, you should NOT make a bracha of ha'adama on the banana since according to some poskim, haetz is the bracha on bananas and you just made a haetz.

We are learning a sugya of brochas and our rav says that the apple has many kabbalistic meanings, so it really is chaviv. He said you really can rely on other opinions that say you can eat the apple first, but if you are worried about R. Shlomo Zalman, you just need to move the other fruits (of the 7 mininm) just to a side table so that they are not in front of you.
